  1. Had to deal my dear ol' IC 746 last yr when I got laid off at a manufacturing plant and hold been having to make do with 10 meters only smaller gearing more or less the put up. Been doing some horse trading and rescue and came crossways a great deal that I couldn't pass up on an RCI 2995DX which has added 12 meters to my capabilities. This 110V radio has been a pleasant surprise. Was apparently a single owner and was in essentially whole sle condition. Kit and caboodle very well, 150 Isaac Watts output. Has equal output on both 10 and 12 meters.

Only unsatisfactory issue so far is that the internal switching mogul supply is lover cooled and the matter was ridiculously taken with fortissimo, altogether unacceptable. So I went inside. Power supply contained in separate atomic number 13 boxful and fan mounted happening top. Winnow seems to be working normally American Samoa should, no bearing noise or anything...information technology's just running fast and loud. Was putting out a big boom of air taboo the exhaust port which exhausts towards the top. So I go in and confirm that it is a 12v fan and decided this thing can follow slowed down and still motility plenty enough melody to attain the cooling job. The power provision box was as wel partially touching up against a metal frame patronise strut which might have been transmitting a little oscillation noise, so I wedged any card stock newspaper betwixt these points to isolate any vibration.

I use 12v teensy-weensy box fans, like computing machine fans, for itinerant twist cooling jobs all the time and many times am faced with the same trouble - a 12v fan lengthways at broad cannonball along off a 13.8 surgery higher power provide just runs also fast, and therefore usually makes to a fault practically noise. So I added a 100 ohm pot to the fan's power lead and neatly installed it on the rear panel with a knob. Ran and utilized the radio quite a patc with the cover off and the buff running play at a reduced and quieter hurry while checking to make sure it was quiet providing enough temperature reduction. The power supply box and turnout atmosphere temporary worker is same American Samoa it was before so off we go. Fan is now considerably quieter with covers back in place and it now makes no longer noise than the intrinsic fan along the 746 did.

Use this fix most anytime. Add a 100 Ohm panel mount-sized kitty to a 12volt small box fan to made-to-order control speed and noise.

  2. Ever put that rig on a spectrum analyzer and come across what the output looks like?
  3. RCIs aren't too no-good until somebody gets their soiled little paws wrong'em.
  4. Lordy....If I could give a spectrum analyser I'd hold an IC 7800 over Hera
  5. When you start hearing about the LID WHO wipes out 10M you'll bang who it is.
  6. So, I have a burning question. Out of curiosity, I did some research and that CB costs $600 new. How a great deal did you invite out it?

    You couldn't give a Hybrid Kenwood? $300 +/- a little

Kenwood TS-130 Solid State trailer truck? Icom United States Intelligence Community-730? $300 +/-

A Heathkit HW-101 would cost you less then $200 in collectors condition with Exponent Supply. I started with a HW-101 I repaired and it was a very good radio. I smel naughtily that I gave IT away.

I read someplace that the ARRL Labs tested one of those RCI-DX rigs and dismissed it as garbage. The ARRL site is down right-wing now, but you should look.

  7. Hi Steve,

I selected this radio for a couple of reasons. It is extremely favorite with a certain seqment of the radio crew and wish maintain it's resale value for a long, long time. And I did get it for a great, flatbottom unbelievably low price. I would never consider purchasing a new one - way too high equally you observe. My unemployment situation is temporary and when I go back to work I'll probably pick up a 746 Pro and get back to full Hf capability.

I particularly relish working the high bands...which is all this radio does.

One superior feature of these radios is the design of the AM channelize circuitry. These radios give Gimcrack, blank and clear AM intonation. Will make Some KenComYayhooTen slink away in shame regarding AM transition.

Ask QRZ Moderator Bill, W6GQ, he'll tell ya the same. He's very familiar with this family of radios.

Anyone wanna sched an AM qso on 29.100 ??

  8. So, what your really saying here is that you really wanted a CB. Spectral Purity means teensy to you and you coif not care if your peers consider you a Eyelid?

Make out I birth that correct?

  9. Hmmm....My oldest boy grew up knock down at that place in Habersham County. He went to Habersham Highschoo. You pass off to know Charles Doss.
  10. Atomic number 102 Steve you do not have that make up. This is a ham radio albeit I leave acknowledge that approximately hams May consider these rigs cheap trash. Others do not. I do not. Information technology is not a full reportage HF rig and therefore should not cost compared against a full coverage HF rig. However....this radio leave "forbidden talk" heaps of 100 watt HF rigs along 10 and 12 meters on SSB and AM and I would put on that to the test if it were conveniently potential to do so.

To one of the other fellows, may I require you how many hams own spectrum analyzers? Less than 1/10th of 1% I would underestimate. Do you ain one? Well if you do I think that is of import just entirely indicates that you are a rich ham. Should we now divvy up into even more sides and start about deep vs. poor war? I hope not.

The last year of his life Jesus was essentially a homeless. He had not where to lay his chief. I don't believe the Universe thinks any less of Him for not having a checking account stuffed full of expendable income.

As to what the arrl thinks, to them I could care inferior. I'm non a member and would anytime-rather spend that $39 a year towards radio gear wheel that I could actually let the cat out of the bag on.

Steve, and no, not familiar with with your boy, sorry.
